Sarah Sjöström Named in 22-Strong Sweden Squad for European Championships
Sarah Sjöström will return to international competition after being named among a 22-strong Sweden squad for the European Championships in Paris.
The three-time Olympic champion returned to competition at the Swim Open Stockholm in April, just over seven months after giving birth to her son, Adrian.
It was her first meet since the Paris Olympics in 2024 – where she won the 50/100 free double – finishing second in the 50 free in 24.36, 0.02 off winner Siobhan Haughey.
It earned her a place on the team for the Europeans at the Olympic Aquatics Centre, Saint-Denis in August where she’ll take on the 50 free and fly.
Sjöström is the most decorated swimmer in the history of the European Championships with 28 medals since her first appearance at Eindhoven 2008 where the 14-year-old won the 100 fly.
“Her capacity, experience and ability to perform during championships are well known. At the same time, she will be an important part of the team, both in the pool and on the sidelines,” said coach Martina Aronsson through the Swedish federation.
Also on the team are Victor Johansson, Sara Junevik and Louise Hansson with further swimmers able to add their names to the roster at the Swedish Championships at the end of June.
“We have seen strong performances throughout the season,” added Aronsson. “Several have already shown that they can compete at the highest international level, while a new generation is now taking its place in the senior context. It gives us both edge and breadth for the championship in Paris.”
