San Diego Relays

LA JOLLA, California, January 7. THE Bruin swimmers and divers wrapped up the first competitions of 2012 on a high note as the swimmers captured the San Diego Relays crown and the divers finished second in a three-meter diving relay at the Spieker Aquatics Center.

The divers were competing against Boise State and Nebraska at home in an unusual meet where six divers compete on three-meter. Each diver gets one dive and the six scores are added together for the overall point total. UCLA finished second (261.65) to Nebraska (277.05) and Boise State was third (244.50).

Down in La Jolla, the swimmers were competing in a seven team relay meet and the Bruins came away with the title, winning with 276 points. Boise State was second with 225 points and San Jose State was third with 211 points.

During the meet, the Bruins posted four event wins starting off with the 300 fly relay. Yasi Jahanshahi, Stephanie Christofferson and Bianca Casciari touched out another Bruin team for first with a time of 2:50.17.

The 500 free relay team of Kathryn Murphy, Cynthia Fascella, Molly Fitzgerald and Noelle Tarazona finished first in a time of 4:33.04. The 200 free relay team of Fascella, Murphy, Jesse Bergman and Annie Stefanec also won, finishing first with a time of 1:45.92.
