Saint Louis Swimmers Break Multiple Pool Records In Win Over Western Illinois

MACOMB, Illinois, October 5. THE Saint Louis swim team broke three pool records at Western Illinois as both Billiken squads defeated the Leathernecks. The men’s team won 167-127 while the women won 219-72. The women rise to 4-1 and the men are 3-1 in dual meets.

For the men, the meet started off on a high note, with the 200-yard medley relay team of Grant Alef, Stephen Hansen, Brendan Hulseman and Zack Billingsley finished with a time of 1:35.57, setting a pool record. The Billikens set another record late in the meet, when freshman Austin Nguyenphu touched the wall at 1:54.33 in the 200-yard IM. This time is also the third-fastest in SLU history.

On the women’s side, Morgan Peterson set a pool record of her own in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.76. The women’s team won every swimming event except for the 100-yard backstroke.

The Bills host the first home meet of the year on Oct. 18 against Eastern Illinois at Simon Rec Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
