Sacred Heart Adds Six More Recruits

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut, August 12. HEAD coach Richard Ludemann has announced the SHU swimming and diving team will welcome six new faces when the Pioneers hit the water this fall. Joining the squad are Johannah Kos, Jackie Balder, Amanda Mason, Taylor Sullivan, Molly McDonald and Katie Marshall.

A transfer from the University of Vermont, Kos was a standout in the backstroke as well as the individual medley events. Sullivan is another stronger backstroker and IMer who joins the Pioneers from the Boston area.

Balder hails from Levitown, N.Y., one of the top swimming programs in the state. She will swim some butterfly for SHU but her specialty will be in the distance events, according to Ludemann. Mason is also a distance specialist, hailing from Maine where she was under the tutelage of current University of Maine head coach Skip Nitarday.

McDonald comes to SHU from Bristow, Va. Ludemann said she is an outstanding all around swimmer and will focus on the freestyle events with Sacred Heart.

A "butterflyer extraordinare" according to Ludemann, Marshall hails from Providence, R.I. She has been recognized as a top butterflyer in both local high school and national swimming circuits.

Special thanks to Sacred Heart for contributing this report.
