NEW COMMIT: Houston, Texas native Ryan Russell has announced his commitment to Emmanuel College and will suit up for the Lions as a member of the Class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m very excited to be attending Emmanuel College in the fall. All my hard work and help from the people closest to me propelled me to the point where I am currently. I am ready to start a new chapter in my life and grow as a swimmer and, more importantly, a person. Go Lions!!!!!”

A talented sprinter, Russell swims year-round with Eagle Swimming Association under head coach Matt Sanspree. He earned a best time at College Station Sectionals back in February and won the 100 back at the Speedo Greater Southwest meet in January. In Summer 2019, he notched three best times at the NCSA Championships.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.31
  • 100 free – 48.76
  • 200 free – 1:47.82
  • 100 back – 53.47

Also competing for Summer Creek High School, Russell has competed at the UIL 6A Region 6 Championships the last three years. He placed seventh in the 100 back as a junior while taking 14th in that event during his sophomore season.

Russell will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when he arrives on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season. He would’ve been their fourth-fastest 100 backstroker last season and will join a training group led by Hunter Hayes and Gruby Balicki.

They couldn’t be getting a better young man. I’ve known Ryan since he was in kindergarten and have seen him grow from a boy into the amazing young man that he is. He’s not just a great athlete, he’s an even better person. Ryan, we’re so proud of you! Go Lions!
