INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, June 27. RYAN Lochte, who likes to keep his opponents guessing by entering every event he qualifies for, decided to take a rare day off tomorrow by scratching the 100-meter back and 100-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Nationals and World Championship Trials.

Lochte already has had an intense week, winning the 200 free and 200 back on day two, as well as finishing second in the 100 fly tonight and taking fourth in the 100 free on day one to secure a 400 free relay spot.

According to the heat sheets, he's decided to drop the 100 back and 100 breast tomorrow, both events he would be hard pressed to compete in even with a full training camp under his belt. He might have secured a spot in the 100 back, but with the likes of Kevin Cordes and Kevin Steel turning up the heat in the breaststroke events, Lochte decided to just focus on the 200-meter IM later in the meet.

Lochte already toyed with his competition by putting up a 400-meter IM cut time earlier this year, then sandbagging whether he would actually compete in the event at Trials. He later admitted, after scratching the event, that he'd never planned on swimming it anyway.
