Ruta Meilutyte, Jeanette Ottesen, Adam Peaty, and other top European athletes gathered in Cardiff for the 2015 National Arena Swimming League Cup. With top-tier talent, world ranked swims were expected heading into the meet.

Meilutyte, an Olympic gold medalist and world record holder in the 50 and 100-meter breast, began the meet with a narrow victory in the women’s 200-meter IM. Her 2:16.33 was enough to fend off a strong comeback effort by Georgia Coates, who finished second in 2:16.70.

Meilutyte raced a 1:07.99 to win the women’s 100-meter breast. Her victory should come as no surprise, but she was well off her world record time. She already holds the second fastest time in the world this year, and this swim was fast enough to place top 30 in the world.

The world’s top ranked 100-meter breaststroker, Adam Peaty, cruised to a 1:01.98 victory in the men’s 100-meter breast. Peaty was nowhere near his 57.92, but still posted the 80th fastest time in the world.

Jeanette Ottesen was dominant in the women’s 100-meter fly. Her 57.92 blew away her closest competitors, and is the ninth fastest time in the world this year. Ottesen already ranks second in the world with a 57.23.

Anthony James topped the men’s 100-meter fly in 53.01. Although he added time from his 40th ranked time in the world, his swim in Cardiff was still the 51st fastest time this year.

Lauren Quigley demonstrated why she’s a top 10 100-meter backstroker in Cardiff, winning the event in 1:01.00 Despite the time addition, this swim is still ranked top 30 in the world.

Peaty and Ottesen were named the top male and female swimmer, respectively.
