Russia Returns to Top of Podium in Duet Free Routine at Worlds

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 23. RUSSIA's duo of Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova returned its country to the top of the podium with a gold-medal winning performance in the duet free routine in synchro action at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

A day after France's Virginie Dedieu prevented a clean sweep of gold by the Russians, the Anastasias tallied 99.333 points for the win. They accumulated 49.500 points for technical merit and 49.833 points for artistic impression.

Spain's Gemma Mengual Civil and Paola Tirados Sanchez garnered silver with 97.667 points (49.000 technical merit, 48.667 artistic impression), while Japan's Ayako Matsumura and Emiko Suzuki earned bronze with 97.333 points (48.500 technical merit, 48.833 artistic impression).

The United States' pair of Christina Jones and Andrea Nott finished fifth with 95.334 points (matching 47.667s in both technical merit and artistic impression.)
