A spokesman for the quickly approaching Olympic Games says that apparent mosquito problem should not be an issue, according to Inside the Games.

At last month’s Maria Lenk Trophy meet, which served as the test event for the Games, the warm down pool was not yet covered. Consequently, the pool was reported to be a mosquito haven. A spokesperson said that the area was fumigated during the test event, and should not be an issue in the future. By the time Olympic competition begins in August, the pool is expected to be covered and air conditioned, to rectify the situation.

While the Harvard Public Health review has gone so far as to say the Rio Olympic Games should be cancelled, Olympic organizers are downplaying the issue. Organizers are trying to reassure athletes and spectators by reminding them that the Games will take place in the winter, when mosquitoes should be less prevalent.

How close to the actual dates of the Olympics are they starting the safety cleanup program AND why are the athletes expected to put up with this nonsense. We all need to know NOW that there is no danger to lives for athletes, families and fans.

Not sure who wrote this article, but need more knowledge about it. Warm up pool will be completely covered and with ac ventilation, so no chance for mosquitos in that area.

Luckily all the swimming takes place at night when all mozzies are in their little hammocks. All true.

Just a reminder that this should be in Chicago this year. Nice job, IOC.

At some point the IOC has to say “ENOUGH” and pull the games.

How the IOC ever felt that Rio was a good place to host these games is beyond comprehension.
