Though he’s not officially leaving the sport, Richard Shoulberg was treated to a “retirement” party Saturday at Mermaid Lake outside Philadelphia. The event featured many of Shoulberg’s former swimmers, some of whom found success at the Olympic and national level.

Bob Platt, Jeff Prior and Dave Wharton were some of the people who took photos with former teammates, and managed to get the guest of honor in some of the shots.

As mentioned above, Shoulberg has not completely left the coaching business. He has started a new program in Philadelphia geared toward swimmers aged 9 to 15 with the goal of making them better swimmers. The team is small — a maximum of 24 at the beginning — and starting tomorrow, will move to the Mermaid Lakes Swim and Golf Club.
