Regis vs. New England

WESTON, Massachusetts, October 30. SOPHOMORE Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) and first-year Alex Gabriels (East Greenbush, N.Y.) each won a pair of races as the University of New England women's swim team evened its record at 1-1 with a 137-75 win over Regis College Saturday afternoon.

After dropping their season-opener earlier in the week to Assumption College, the Nor'easters evened their record at 1-1.

Arsenault claimed victory in both the 50-yard backstroke (31.02) and 100-yard freestyle (1:02.18), while Gabriels was victorious in the 50-free (27.33) and 100-back (1:05.85). Gabriels also swam the third leg of Big Blue's winning entry in the 200-yard medley relay.

Winning individual races for Big Blue were juniors Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.), Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) and Allie Travnik (New Lenox, Ill), as well as first-years Briana Hirst (Amherst, N.H.) and Kirstin Russell (Windham, Maine). Shea won the 50-yard breaststroke, Wareham the 50-yard butterfly, and Travnik the 100-yard fly. Russell was first in the 1000-yard free and Hirst the 100-yard breaststroke.

First-year Christina Estrada (Bellingham, Mass.) picked up a pair of victories for the Pride (0-2).

UNE returns to action next Saturday with a road meet at UMass Dartmouth. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
