Regan Smith Breaks NAG Record in 100 Back at Sectional; MLA Shining

Regan Smith continued her dominance at the USA Sectional in Akron on Saturday.

After breaking the national age group record in the 100 back during prelims with 51.28, the Riptide swimmer smashed her own mark with a 50.84 to win the finals.

Kathryn Ackerman of Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics was second in 54.71. Portia Brown
of Lake Erie Silver Dolphins was third at 55.04.

Smith also won the 200 butterfly in 1:53.50, again finishing ahead of Ackerman (2:00.77).

In the men’s 100 back, Jack Fitzpatrick of Performance Elite Aquatics won in 48.81. Gregory Kalin took second (49.33), followed by Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics’ Ian Miskelley (49.44).

In the women’s 500 free, Riptide’s Lucia Rizzo won the event in 4:55.10. Emma Bliss of USSC was second in 4:56.09, while Caroline Sisson of Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics was third (4:56.62).

In the men’s 500 free, Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics’ Skyler Cook-Weeks won in 4:27.57. Daniel Frederick was second in 4:31.08 and Jay Johnson of Heat was third in 4:33.69.

Zoe Skirboll of Racer X won the 100 breast in 1:01.47. Aisling Walsh took second in 1:01.79 and Laura Gottler was third in 1:02.37.

Devon Nowicki won the 100 breast (53.59) ahead of Fausto Huenta (55.57) and West Ottawa Swim Club’s Derek Maas (56.20). His brother Kyle Maas, was fourth (56.26), followed by his high school teammates Khadin Soto (56.44) and Julian Barrios (56.55), swimming for MLA.

Zachary Cook won the 200 butterfly in 1:49.12 ahead of Owen Blazer (1:51.50) and Kimani Gregory (1:51.55).

MLA’s Cook-Weeks, Miskelley, Kyle Maas and Cameron Peel won the 800 free relay in 6:38.93.
