Records Fall At 2016 Maine High School State Class B Championships

At the 2016 Maine High School Class B State Championships it was Greely High School that finished first on the girl’s side with a total of 321 points. Second went to Cape Elizabeth High School and their total of 314 points, while third was Kennebunk High School (222).

Olivia Tighe of CAPE finished first in the girls 200 free with a time of 1:55.48, touching more than four seconds ahead of the competition.

The girls 200 IM was a close race with Marshall Lowery of KENN and Ana Neff-Jendrasko of MCAU finishing a slim .04 seconds apart. Lowery got her hand to the wall first to stop the clock at a 2:09.42 over Neff-Jendrasko’s 2:09.46.

Lowery later neared the meet and state record of 56.51 from 2013 in the 100 back with a time of 56.91.

Ann Tolan posted a new meet record in the girls 50 free, posting a final time of 23.39. Tolan finished an astounding second and a half ahead of her competitors.

Tolan continued her sprinting prowess into the 100 free, grabbing first with a time of 51.49. CAPE’s Alicia Lawrence finished second with a 55.14, while third went to Ella Martin of MORSE and her time of 56.24.

Lydia DaCorte posted a new meet record in the girls 500 free, turning in a final time of 5:05.68.

Sonia Lin carried the record-breaking tradition into the 100 breaststroke, posting a final time of 1:06.15. Eliza Lunt finished second with a time of 1:08.68, while third went to Greely’s Hwanhee Park and her time of 1:10.32.

On the boys side Ellsworth High School finished first with a total of 362 points. Second went to Cape Elizabeth High School (271.5), while third was Mount Desert Island HS (262.5).

Liam Sullivan of MDI and Cooper Holmes Ellsworth kept it close in the boys 200 IM finishing .38 seconds apart. Sullivan kept Holmes at bay throughout the race to finish first with a time of 1:57.08 over Holmes’ 1:57.46.

Ellsworth’s Talor Hamilton scorched the competition in the 50 free with a final time of 21.19 for a new meet record. Hamilton also neared the state record of 20394 set in 2009.

Hamilton claimed another meet record and first place finish in the 100 free, posting a final time of 46.42. Just one day before Nate Samson lowered the state record to a 46.24 in the Class A Championships, otherwise Hamilton would have secured a state record as well.

Julian Abaldo of CAMD grabbed first in the 100 fly with a time of 53.46. OT’s Nick Gould finished second overall iwth atime of 54.47, while Richie Matthews of Ellsworth rounded out the top three with a time of 54.83.

Holmes collected the win in the 100 back, posting a final time of 52.51, nearing Hamilton’s 2015 meet record of 52.26.

Liam Sullivan of MDI just barely missed the meet record in the 100 breaststroke, finishing a shy .20 seconds away from the 1991 record of 58.57. The freshman turned in a final time of 58.77 for the win.
