Indiana head coach Ray Looze recapped Indiana’s incredible Friday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships as the Hoosiers won national titles in the 100 fly, 100 breast and 3m diving.

Looze talked about how special Vini Lanza’s win was for him and the rest of the Indiana program as he won the Hoosiers’ first NCAA title in the 100 fly since Mark Spitz won four in a row from 1969-72. He talked about Lanza’s celebration and the emotions after that race that Lanza showed. He also said “Lanza is a winner” and said he is looking to win the 200 as well Saturday night. Lanza is the third seed for the 200 fly tonight.

Looze also talked about how well Ian Finnerty did in the 100 breast final and what it was like coaching him this season after he had a major breakout season in 2018. He previewed his 200 breast final for Saturday night and said he should have a better back half because of how he has trained. Finnerty is the defending champion in the 200 breast and is the second seed for finals tonight.

Looze also discussed the 200 free where Zach Apple finished in second place behind Andrew Seliskar in one of the most hyped up races of the meet. He also gave a shoutout to the rest of the guys on his team in Gabriel Fantoni and Zane Backes as well as NC State junior Coleman Stewart, who swam two second place finishes Friday night.

He also talked about how huge Andrew Capobianco’s 3m board win was for the program and what he is hoping for the last day of the meet.
