IRVINE, California, August 8. THURSDAY’S competition at the USA Swimming nationals featured some exciting races for spots on international rosters, with a few young talents surprising with breakout swims when it mattered most.

Jeff Commings and David Rieder recapped the top moments from each of the eight individual event finals, including Elizabeth Beisel’s slip, Tyler Clary’s return to the top in the 200 back and Katie Ledecky’s continued improvement in the 200 free.
