Queens vs. Limestone

GAFFNEY, South Carolina, October 29. MULTIPLE strong individual performances were key factors as the Limestone College men's (2-1) and women's (3-0) swim teams posted victories over Queens University (Men 1-1, Women 0-2) in the Saints home opener on Friday, October 29. The women's team posted a dominant 151-62 decision over the Royals while the men earned a come-from-behind victory in the last several events to secure a 129-125 decision.

Sophomore Lance Maxwell (Vienna, Austria) paced the men's team with a pair of top finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (21.67) and 100-yard freestyle (47.79) while sophomore Blake Schaeffer (Simpsonville, S.C.) earned a first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.51 and a runner-up outing with a time 17:14.83 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He was joined by junior Nik Thomas (Denver, Colo.), who earned top honors in the 100-yard backstroke (56.42) and took second-place in the 200-yard event with a time of 1:59.84.

Senior Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia) was one of two Saints to notch a pair of runner-up finishes as he posted times of 1:02.55 and 2:17.52 in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Freshman Fran Cverle (Zagreb, Croatia) posted the other two second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.83) and 100-yard freestyle (47.96).

Freshmen Zach Conviser (Arden, N.C.) and Mike Sanders (Raleigh, N.C.) each earned runner-up honors as Conviser notched a time of 1:58.62 in the 200-yard butterfly while Sanders finished the 500-yard freestyle in 5:03.12.

On the women's side, four swimmers earned a pair of first-place finishes. They were led by Nathania La Pierre (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) who took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.90) and 200-yard butterfly (2:20.61) while earning second-place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:55.07.

Freshman Myriah Frabasilio (Yuma, Ariz.) earned her first-place finishes in the 1,650 freestyle (18:21.55) and 500-yard freestyle (5:24.31) while senior Renee Pouchet (Maraval, Trinidad) posted times of 59.66 and 2:14.74 in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, respectively. Sophomore Anna Freeman (Mississauga, Ontairo) capped off those performances with top honors in the 200-yard breast stroke (2:39.95) and 400-yard individual medley (4:54.97).

Freshman Rachel Echard (Canton, Ga.) posted a solid outing with three runner-up outings in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.34) and 100- and 200-yard butterfly events with times of 1:05.84 and 2:23.71, respectively. Freshman Katelynn Gilbert (Concord, N.C.) took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.23) and was second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.84) while freshman Casey Greener (Trophy Club, Texas) notched a first-place finish with a time of 1:15.10 in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Caitlin Salerno (Clifton Park, N.Y.) rounded out the Saints top performances with second-place finishes in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:26.29) and 500-yard freestyle (5:41.16).

Limestone is right back in action tomorrow morning as they head to Salisbury, N.C. for the Boo Bash Relays at Catawba College. The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
