The Queens University of Charlotte men’s swimming team took first place in a dual meet with Emory University in the team’s home opener on Saturday morning.

Queens avenged last season’s loss to Emory, the defending NCAA DIII National Champion, by winning 13 of 14 events in the pool.

Among the individual winners for the Royals was junior Marius Kusch who collected two victories in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle. Kusch reached the wall nine second ahead of the next competitor in the butterfly and 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the freestyle race.

Senior Nick Arakelian won three individual events in the meet beginning with the 100-yard breaststroke, winning by more than three seconds. Arakelian won for the second time in the 200-yard breaststroke, followed by a win in the 400-yard I.M. with a 12-second margin of victory.

Fellow senior Paul Pijulet was also a three-time winner for Queens, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and 100-yard butterfly, while freshmen Henrik Faber, Baptiste Leger and Alen Mosic collected individual wins for Queens.

Pijuelt, Kusch and Arakelian were a part of Queens 200-yard medley relay team along with senior Ben Mayes that took first with a time of 1:28.39, while Kusch, Mayes, Mosic and sophomore Dymtro Sydorchenko teamed together to win the 200-yard freestyle relay race.

The Royals will be back in the pool next weekend on Friday, Oct. 20, when they travel to Blacksburg, Va. for a dual meet with NCAA Division I institution Virginia Tech.
