The FINA World Cup will have its third and final leg of competition this year take place in Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 3-5. The competition will feature numerous international stars as well as a strong contingent of American standouts.

011 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEDALIST KATIE DRABOT RETIRES FROM SWIMMING

Katie Drabot, who has represented the USA in several international meets and who won a bronze medal in the 200 butterfly at the 2019 World Championships, announced her retirement from swimming. The 13-time All-American from Stanford helped the Cardinal to three consecutive NCAA Championships and was on three NCAA-title relays.

That’s the lesson Polish swimmer Kasia Wasick learned after retiring from swimming six years ago because of a shoulder injury, then returning with a newfound confidence and appreciation for the sport she loves.

015 MADISYN COX, VINDICATED NATIONAL CHAMPION, RETIRES FROM SWIMMING

World champion swimmer Madisyn Cox, who, perhaps, had one of the most roller coaster careers in swimming history, announced her retirement from swimming. She was a world champion on a relay, world medalist and narrowly missed a spot on the Olympic team. She also was suspended for a banned substance—preventing her from competing at the U.S. Trials for the 2019 World Championships—but later vindicated during an appeal.

016 AFTER DOPING ORDEAL, ROLAND SCHOEMAN FINDING PEACE WITH POST-SWIMMING LIFE

South Africa’s Roland Schoeman had been to four Olympics, missed out on a fifth in 2016, and had his sights set on Tokyo in 2020. That changed in July of 2019 when FINA informed him that he had tested positive for a substance he strenuously maintains he hadn’t used. However, as Schoeman has turned the page on his career, he’s finding his way outside of the water, working in real estate and as a motivational speaker.

Throughout the International Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Oct. 14-15, members of the Class of 2022 shared numerous stories during their enshrinement speeches. It was truly a celebratory event in Fort Lauderdale, the 57th of its kind. SW Biweekly shares some of the many highlights from this special evening.

022 REGAN SMITH SCORCHES SWIFT TIME IN 200 BACKSTROKE AS ARIZONA STATE PRO GROUP SHINES
During breaks of the recent ASU-Wisconsin dual meet, several members of the Arizona State pro group stepped to the blocks for time trials. Leading the way was Regan Smith, who put together a sterling time of 1:49.43 in the 200 yard backstroke. Chase Kalisz (200 breast, 1:53.83) and Simone Manuel (100 free, 48.40), who are also training with Coach Bob Bowman at ASU, turned in fast early-season times.

023 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL CONTINUE WITH TIMED RELAY FINALS

The NCAA recently decided to keep timed finals for all relays for the upcoming 2023 NCAA Championships. The decision not to have any relay prelims was implemented the past two seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
