The 2026 USA Swimming TYR Pro Swim Series kicked off its Indianapolis stop on Wednesday, July 17, from the Indiana Natatorium.
The events for Day 1’s prelims session is the women’s and men’s 200 IM, 50 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle.
Here is a look at what happened in the session:
Pro Swim Series: Women’s 200 IM
The first session started with a packed field that fought its way into the finals.
New York Athletic Club’s Kate Douglass put together a strong prelims swim to get to the wall in 2:10.54 and take the top seed into the finals.
South Africa’s Aimee Canny was the only other in the field to break 2:11, finishing in 2:10.92.
Cavalier Aquatics’ Leah Hayes took the third seed in 2:12.53, ahead of Wisconsin’s Phoebe Bacon (2:12.81), Jersey Wahoo’s Audrey Derivaux (2:13.08), NYAC’s Torri Huske (2:13.58), Teagan O’Dell (2:14.57) and Louisville’s Summer Cardwell (2:14.88).

Olympian Kieran Smith put together the fastest 200 IM in the morning, leading a trio of swimmers to break 2 minutes in the event.
Smith, swimming for Ridgefield Aquatics, got to the wall first in 1:59.37, followed by Carmel’s Zheng Yi (1:59.65) and Cal’s Ryan Erisman (1:59.93).
Indiana’s Owen McDonald took the fourth seed in 2:00.03, followed by Lakeside’s Maximus Williamson (2:00.14), Texas Ford’s Luke Barr (2:00.22), Indiana’s Josh Bey (2:00.44) and Wisconsin’s Dominik Torok (2:00.52).

Indiana’s Van Mathias set the meet record to earn the top seed in the 50 breaststroke, touching in 26.53.
It was fourth hundredths of a second ahead of his seed time and one hundredth off the U.S. Open record set by Michael Andrew. Mathias holds the American record at 26. 39, set in April.
Andrew was second in 26.75, followed by Towson’s Brian Benzing (27.30), Mikel Schreueders (27.51), Cardinals’ Denis Petrashov (27.58), Louisville’s Finnley Conklin (27.66), Indiana’s Alexei Avakov (27.68) and Bulldog Swimming’s Jake Wang (27.80).

Pro Swim Series: Women’s 100 Backstroke
Aquajets Swim Team’s Isabelle Stadden continued her impressive season with a top seed in the 100 backstroke at 58.46, just one hundredth of a second ahead of Wolfpack Elite’s Katharine Berkoff (58.47), setting up what could be a fast duel in finals.
Wisconsin’s Maggie Wanezek took the third seed in 59.20.
The event is packed with Olympians, as usual in the 100 back, so anything can happen and no one is out of the hunt, especially in the NC State-Wolfpack Elite training group.
TAC Titan’s Claire Curzan took the fourth seed in 59.43, followed by NC State’s Leah Shackley (49.74), Wolfpack Elite’s Rhyan White (59.85), NC State’s Erika Paleaz (1:00.53) and Wisconsin’s Phoebe Bacon (1:00.57).

Speaking of NC State speed, Kaii Winkler raced to the top seed in the men’s 100 back, getting to the wall in 53.80.
Sun Devil’s Adam Chaney took the third sed in 54.21, followed by a third-place tie between Olympic champion Ryan Murphy and Alabama’s Tommy Hagar (54.32).
The fifth seed went to OSU’s Cornelius Jahn (54.53), followed by PDR’s Destin Lasco (54.68), NC State’s Gavin Keogh (54.91) and teammate Daniel Diehl (54.92), placing three men in the NC State training group in the finals.

It was one hundredth of a second ahead of South Africa’s Aimee Canny (1:56.59), who took her second runner-up seed of the morning, following the 200 IM.
Laker Swim’s Rylee Erisman took the third seed in 1:57.35, followed by Indiana’s Liberty Clark (1:57.57) and Anna Peplowski (1:57.59).
Long Island’s Cavan Gormsen took the sixth seed in 1:58.32, followed by Cavalier’s Madi Mintenko (1:58.83) and Eastern Express’ Kennedi Dobson (1:59.16).
