Poolesville Sweeps 2016 Maryland 3A/2A/1A State High School Championships

Poolesville swept the boys and girls titles at the 2016 Maryland 3A/2A/1A State High School Championships.

Girls

Poolesville picked up the 3A/2A/1A crown with 370 points.  Easton (265), Walkersville (174), C Milton Wright (164) and Tuscarora (141) rounded out the top five.

C Milton Wright’s Megan Cowan claimed the 200-yard free in 1:57.62. Cowan doubled up with a 54.32 in the 100-yard free.

Thomas Johnson’s Eliza Manning set the state record with a 2:04.82 in the 200-yard IM. Manning doubled up with a 1:04.45 in the 100-yard breast.

Queen Anne’s Hailey Ritter took the 50-yard free title in 24.65.

Poolesville’s Fanny Wu earned the 100-yard fly crown in 59.16.

Rockville’s Alexa Stewart claimed the 500-yard free title in 5:11.16.

Walkersville’s Justine Wantz grabbed the 100-yard back crown in 59.26.

Poolesville’s Katarina Lechner, Sayaka Vaules, Arona Baigal and Theresa Nardone clocked a 1:52.24 to win the 200-yard medley relay.

Poolesville’s Sayaka Vaules, Julia Wang, Fanny Wu and Theresa Nardone topped the 200-yard free relay in 1:40.78.

Poolesville’s Rachel Ryan, Fanny Wu, Katarina Lechner and Julia Wang claimed the 400-yard free relay in 3:43.07.

Damascus’ Madeline Kline topped the one-meter diving event with 462.35 points.

Boys

Poolesville claimed the 3A/2A/1A title with 325 points.  Rockville (198), C Milton Wright (177), Damascus (169) and Middletown (167) finished second through fourth.

Middletown’s John Pressly won the 200-yard free in 1:44.91. Pressly doubled up with a 52.21 in the 100-yard fly.

Damascus’ Ryan O’Leary hit the wall in 1:55.20 to win the 200-yard IM.

Huntingtown’s Gregory Gordon snagged the 50-yard free title in 21.65.

Rockville’s Griffin Alaniz earned the 100-yard free title in a state record 46.45. Alaniz doubled up with a 51.12 state record in the 100-yard back.

Rockville’s Nathan Watts won the 500-yard free in 4:47.68.

Damascus; Ryan O’Leary topped the 100-yard breast in 57.65.

Rockville’s Nathan Watts, Tony Guardado, Griffin Alaniz and Joshua Grammer won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.53.

Poolesville’s Conner Dunathan, David Umansky, Theodore Jagodits and Jisu Kim won the 200-yard free relay in 1:29.54.

Rockville’s Joshua Grammer, Tony Guardado, Nathan Watts and Griffin Alaniz claimed the 400-yard free relay in 3:18.43.

Rockville’s Brendan Andrews won the one-meter diving title with 336.50 points.
