Poll of the Week: Golden Goggle Male Race of the Year (Results)

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 12. THE Golden Goggles is going to be an exciting event in Los Angeles in November 24. Not only is it a reunion for members of the USA Swimming national team, but a ceremony to honor the best the nation has to offer. We’ve been asking you to pick your own choices for the awards being presented in a few days at the Golden Goggles, and last week we wanted to know which nominated swim deserved to win the award for male race of the year.

Ryan Lochte’s fans might have split the vote, allowing for Matt Grevers’ 100 backstroke win from Barcelona to get the most votes in our poll with 50.60 percent. Lochte’s 200 IM gold medal at the world championships came in second with 34.94 percent, and Lochte’s 200 backstroke win was third with 14.46 percent.

Our new poll might look a little familiar if you’ve been following our poll questions for the past few weeks. The nominees for Female Athlete of the Year are identical to the nominees for Female Race of the Year. Katie Ledecky got the most votes in the Race of the Year, but can she pull that off in this category? Your first choice is Haley Anderson, who won the 5K open water swim at the world championships after missing out on qualifying in the more prestigious 10K race. The second choice in this category is Missy Franklin, who made history as the first woman to win six gold medals at one world championships. She won the 100 and 200 backstrokes, as well as all three relays. And finally, there’s Ledecky, who won four gold medals in Barcelona, two of which were earned in world record time. She shattered the world record in the 1500 freestyle then nearly negative split her way to the world record in the 800 free. And for good measure, she was part of the winning 800 free relay.

So those are your choices for Female Athlete of the Year. Go to swimmingworld.com and place your vote on the right side of our home page. You still have until Friday, November 15, to make your vote really count for the Golden Goggles. Go to usaswimming.org/goldengoggles to vote.
