Polish Long Course Nationals: Konrad Czerniak, Slawomir Wolniak, Pawel Korzeniowski End Night With Polish Records

OSTROWIEC SWIETOKRZYSKI, Poland, May 24. THE last night of swimming at the Polish Long Course Championships produced several more national records.

Konrad Czerniak became the first 48-second Polish man in the men's 100 free. He won the title in 48.49 to smash Lukasz Gasior's national record of 49.16. Marcin Tarczynski finished second in 49.35, while Mateusz Sawinski took third in 49.98.

Slawomir Wolniak followed in the men's 100 breast with a 1:00.66 to be the first Polish man to break 1:01. The Polish record witnessed an impressive progression as Mariusz Winogrodzki posted a 1:01.89 in prelims to break Slawomir Kuczko's 2006 record of 1:02.12. Wolniak, however, had a faster time in mind for finals with a winning 1:00.66. Winogrodzki placed second in 1:01.79, while Kuczko took third in 1:02.03.

During prelims, Pawel Korzeniowski crushed the Polish record in the men's 50 fly. He posted a time of 24.06, that wiped out the 24.37 set by Czerniak yesterday. In turn, that time beat Konrad Galka's 1996 record of 24.41. During finals, Korzeniowski and Maciej Lewandowski put on a show with matching 24.11s for the title. Marcin Babuchowski claimed third in 24.47.

Katarzyna Wilk began the final night of action with a winning time of 55.29 in the women's 100 free. Sonia Bochynska placed second in 57.19 with Magda Baranowska taking third in 57.49.

Ewa Cecieszko topped the women's 100 breast in 1:09.48, while Paulina Zachoszcz (1:10.57) and Agnieszka Ostrowska (1:10.78) rounded out the top three. Aleksandra Urbanczyk won the women's 50 fly in 27.03, touching out Anna Dowgiert (27.08) for the win. Marcelina Radlinska took third in 28.17.

Donata Kilijanska captured the women's 800 free in 8:51.82, while Paula Zukowska touched second in 8:55.44. Karolina Szczepaniak wound up third in 9:01.29. Maciej Hreniak followed in the men's 1500 free with a 15:27.21 for the win. Krzysztof Pielowski finished second in 15:31.79, while Karol Zaczynski took third in 15:41.20.
