Pittsburgh Hires Kristin Cihoski as Assistant Coach

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, June 26. UNIVERSITY of Pittsburgh head swim coach Chuck Knoles announced Friday the hiring of Kristin Cihoski as assistant swimming coach.

“I'm excited to be part of such a knowledgeable and great staff,” Cihoski said. “They are a world-class team who has worked with national champions and All-Americans. I'm looking forward to the opportunity of learning their different coaching styles. I intend on being a sponge and soaking up as much as possible.”

“Kristin is a great fit for our staff here at Pitt,” Knoles stated. “She brings a wealth of personal competitive experience and combines that with a passion for coaching that is hard to match. Her successes as a leader at Indiana on a Big 10 Championship team, as an athlete who competed at the NCAA Championships, and as an exciting young coach, will add positive dimension and depth to our coaching staff. We can't wait for her to start with the Panthers!”

Cihoski joins Pitt after serving one year as the volunteer assistant and nutritional mentor at Indiana University. During that time, Cihoski helped develop 16 NCAA qualifiers. She also helped guide Cody Miller (200 breast) and James Wells (100 back) to individual Big Ten titles.

Most recently, Cihoski assisted in the training of former Indiana standout Margaux Farrell which led to her earning a spot on the 2012 French Olympic Team as a member of the 800 free relay. Cihoski also coached Alyssa Vavra and Brenna MacLean, who earned third-place finishes in the 200 IM and 200 fly, respectively, at the 2011 Pan American Games.

A four-time Big Ten All-Conference performer at Indiana, Chioski swam the backstroke, butterfly and IM. She helped lead the Hooisers to conference titles in 2007 and 2009. As a sophomore, Cihoski qualified for the 2007 NCAA Championships, where the Hoosiers finished 10th overall. She was also a four-time U.S. National qualifier (2005-08).

Cihoski is a 2009 graduate of Indiana, where she earned a bachelor's degree in general studies.

Cihoski was the head women's swim coach at her alma mater Tabb High School in Yorktown, Va. during the 2010-11 season. She led the squad to an 8-2 record and a seventh-place finish at the Virginia AA State Championship. Cihoski was a four-time high school All-American at Tabb, setting a state record in the 200 IM as a senior.
