Giordano, Sharp Shine As Pitt Dominates On Senior Day

Pitt hosted Carnegie Mellon, California (Pa.), Clarion, and Duquesne in a two-day meet at the Trees Pool on Jan. 29-30. Day one consisted of diving, while day two included swimming.

While no final scores are available at this time, the Pitt men and women earned a combined 22 first place finishes and 21 second place finishes.

Day One

Dominic Giordano swept both the men’s 1m (360.75) and 3m (405.95). His teammate Tony Galante took second on both the 1m (302.70) and 3m (318.05).

On the women’s side, the Panthers swept the 1m, led by Meme Sharp (316.90) and followed by Samantha Winkelmann (279.55) and Rachel Saunders (273.50). Sharp also won the 3m (335.50), followed again by Winkelmann (298.60).

Day Two

The Pitt women and men both won the 200 medley and 200 free relays on day two.

Zachary Lierley won the men’s 1000 (9:35.56) and led Pitt’s sweep in the 400 IM (3:58.60). Rachel Brown won the women’s 200 free (1:53.32) and 500 free (5:05.73).

The Panthers swept the men’s 200 free, led by Spencer Gray (1:41.74), and the men’s 100 back, won by Matt Tankle (50.90). Tankle later led Pitt’s sweep in the men’s 200 back (1:50.65).

Pitt also went 1-2-3 in the men’s 50 free, won by David Sweeney (20.79), and the men’s 100 free, led by Avery Warrington (45.72). Sweeney later won the 100 fly (49.37).

The Panther women swept the 100 fly, led by Leticia Lelli (57.51), and the 400 IM, won by Amanda Richey (4:23.56). Kinga Cichowska won both the women’s 100 breast (1:02.75) and 200 breast (2:14.84).

Other Pitt event winners included Allison Murslack in the women’s 1000 (10:44.67), Emily Murphy in the women’s 50 free (23.58), Mack Rice in the men’s 200 fly (1:49.36), and Hannah Wittman in the women’s 100 back (58.43).

The Panthers return to action for the ACC Championships in Greensboro.
