Pieter Coetze & Mona McSharry Leading The Way In Day Three Prelims At LEN European U23 Championships

Pieter Coetze and Mona McSharry were in action on the final day of prelims at the LEN European U23 Championships in Dublin.

While the USA, South Africa and Zimbabwe are competing at the Sport Ireland: National Aquatics Centre, only European nations are included in the medal placings.

McSharry is seeking her third title in as many days and shared top billing in the 200m breaststroke with Denmark’s Clara Rybak-Andersen as both women clocked 2:27.27.

The Irishwoman said through Swim Ireland:

“Pretty good, happy with that, it’s just about getting the job done today, one more race tonight, we’ll see what my body can do. Just go out, have fun and race.

“I’m happy (with my performances this weekend), I knew it was going to be tough coming into this meet, I didn’t know what to expect and honestly, fair play to the staff and the other athletes here, it’s been awesome, really enjoyable, cheering us on, great atmosphere and I think that’s made the world of difference.”

Commonwealth champion Pieter Coetze heads the 100 back in 54.14 ahead of Kai van Westering (54.22) and Jonathon Adam (54.25).

Ralph Daleiden of Luxembourg was the only man inside 49 in the 100 free as he booked lane four in 48.83 with British duo Ed Mildred and Alexander Cahoon the next through in 49.01 and 49.10 respectively.

Janja Segel booked lane four in the women’s 100 free in 55.28 ahead of Nele Schulze (55.45) and Evelyn Davis (55.63).

Mitchell Mason (1:00.25) leads the men’s 100br while Isabelle Stadden heads the women’s 200 back (2:11.66).

Stergios-Marios Bilas (23.43) and Neza Clankar (26.37) led the way in the men’s and women’s 50 fly respectively.

The USA (3:29.58) head the mixed 4×100 free relay in 3:29.58 ahead of Germany (3:31.26) and Poland (3:31.64).
