Mona McSharry Makes It Two Golds & Chmielewski Twins Go 1-3 At LEN European U23 Championships

Mona McSharry Makes It Two Golds & Chmielewski Twins Go 1-3 At LEN European U23 Championships

Mona McSharry claimed her second gold in as many races and twins Krzysztof  and Michael Chmielewski claimed a family 1-3 in the 200 fly at the LEN European U23 Championships in Dublin.

McSharry made it two golds when she added the 100 to her 50 breaststroke title in 1:06.69, 0.01 ahead of Kaitlyn Dober of the USA who finished in 1:06.70.

Anita Bottazzo of Italy (1:07.17) and Denmark’s Clara Rybak-Andersen (1:08.12) were the next Europeans home.

Krzysztof  Chmielewski led throughout to win in 1:54.68 with Noyan Taylan of France coming from fifth at 150 to take second with a last 50 of 30.03 steering him to 1:56.42.

Michal Chmielewski  took third in 1:56.72.

Mistin Takes 400 Free

Petar Mitsin won the men’s 400 free in 3:46.16 ahead of Dan Wiffen (3:47.57) and Rex Maurer of the USA (3:47.63) with 200 champion Dimitrios Markos taking bronze in 3:50.42.

The first three men home in the 50m free all went inside 22secs with Stergios-Marios Bilas of Greece taking the title in 21.83.

Norwegian Nicholas Lia was next home in 21.95, 0.01 ahead of Ukraine’s Vladislav Bukhov (21.96).

Ellen Walshe claimed her second gold and third medal overall in the 4IM in 4:42.72 to complete the IM double.

Anja Crevar was the second European home in 4:46.86.

Matt Sates of South Africa won the men’s equivalent, in 4:14.73, 0.01 ahead of Germany’s Cedric Buessing (4:15.47) and Emilion Mattenet (4:15.91).

Lucien Vergnes of France won the men’s 200 breaststroke in 2:10.04 ahead of Luca Janssen (2:10.79) and Maksym Ovchinnikov (2:11.02).

Isabel Gose and Leonie Maertens repeated their 800 1-2 in the 400 free, the 2022 European champion topping the podium once more in 4:05.96.

Maertens (4:08.52) and Francisca Soares Martins of Portugal (4:08.92) took silver and bronze.

Emma Sticklen of the USA was a clear winner in the 200 fly in 2:08.50 as Keanna Macinnes claimed the 100-200 double in 2:09.73.

The Briton was joined on the podium by Anja Crevar of Serbia (2:10.02) and Frenchwoman Juliette Marchand (2:11.45).

Commonwealth silver medallist Pieter Coetze touched first in the 50 back in 24.89 with Britain’s Jonathon Adam taking gold in 25.12.

Evangelos Makrygiannis of Greece claimed silver in 25.12 with Miroslav Knedla of the Czech Republic and Israel’s Adam Maraana sharing bronze in 25.30.

Isabelle Stodden dominated the women’s 100 back in 59.27 with Adela Pikorska of Poland taking gold in 1:00.31 ahead of Lotte Hosper (1:01.37) and Bertille Cousson (1:02.01).
