Performance of the Week: Hopkin Leads Arkansas With Sub-48 Relay Split
This week’s Performance of the Week goes to Arkansas junior Anna Hopkin for her outstanding split in the 4×100 freestyle relay this weekend.
Competing at a tri-meet against the University of Kentucky and the University of Missouri, Hopkin blasted a 47.77 third leg as part of the school’s winning 4×100 freestyle relay. Hopkin, along with Kobie Melton (50.57), Kiera Michailoff-Russel (50.12), and Marlena Pigliacampi (51.02) as anchor, finished in 3:19.64 which is good for the fifth fastest relay this year. The team’s fastest relay last season was a 3:19.19.
Hopkin also produced two school records over the weekend, posting a 22.25 in the 50 free and a 48.66 to break the school record in the 100 free. She also had several other blistering relay splits, including two sub-22 50 freestyles (21.54 and 21.73) and a 47.85 anchor as part of the 4×100 medley relay. Her times in the 50 and 100 free are both good for sixth overall in the nation.
Hopkin’s efforts helped the Arkansas team to a 1-point victory over Missouri (177-176), while the Razorbacks fell to Kentucky (206-147).
Congratulations Anna Hopkin on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!
