Performance of the Week: Feb. 12, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 12. WE saw five national high school records fall last weekend, but the one that had most swimming fans in shock and awe was Jack Conger's 4:13.87 in the 500-yard freestyle at the DC Metro championships. Conger took two and a half seconds off the record that Jeff Kostoff had held since 1983 with a 1:37.7 split at the 200-yard mark and a remarkable 24.54 on his final 50 yards. Conger has mostly been known as a 200 backstroker, but will be headed to the University of Texas next fall as a very versatile swimmer for the Longhorns.

Congratulations, Jack, you've won our Performance of the Week!
