Penn State Adds Verbal from Three-Time Vermont State Record Holder Miles Cochrane

NEW COMMIT: South Burlington, Vt. native Miles Cochrane has announced his verbal commitment to Penn State and will suit up for the Nittany Lions in the fall of 2020.

Primarily a breaststroker and IMer, Cochrane currently swims year-round with Green Mountain Aquatics and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 200 breast. He concluded his successful long course season with four top-10 finishes at New England LCM Seniors where his highest placing was a sixth-place showing in the 200m breast. Last winter, he recorded five best times at the Bowdoin Open before going on to finish 27th in the 200 breast at NCSAs.

A current senior at South Burlington High School, Cochrane has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts. He is a seven-time Vermont Swim Association state champion, most recently winning four events at the 2019 state meet. He also owns the Vermont state record in the 100 breast for both 15-16 and 17-18 year olds as well as the 200 IM for the 17-18 age group.

He told Swimming World:

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 57.68
  • 200 breast – 2:03.25
  • 200 fly – 1:52.79
  • 200 IM – 1:56.30
  • 400 IM – 4:05.58

Cochrane is related to Ada Kok, a two-time Olympian for the Netherlands who was the gold medalist in the 200m fly in 1968. When he arrives in State College as a member of the class of 2024, Cochrane will add his talents to a training group led by Brad JohnsonDaniel RaisanenHayden Harlow, and William Lulek.
