Penn Quakers Add Truman Armstrong, James Curreri to Class of 2026

NEW COMMITS: The University of Pennsylvania has received two verbal commitments* for the fall of 2022 from Austin, Texas native Truman Armstrong and James Curreri of Kinnelon, N.J.

Both talented swimmers will join Alex Fu, Alan Cherches and Nick Grulke as a member of the Quakers’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I couldn’t be more excited to announce my commitment to study and swim at the University of Pennsylvania!! Going to Penn has been a goal of mine for years and while I’m there I will have an incredible opportunity to study at the world-renowned Wharton School of Business! I want to thank my friends, coaches and most importantly my family for helping me achieve this goal. Lastly, I want to give a big thank you to Coach Schnur for recruiting me! Go Quakers!!!”

Armstrong, who trains year-round with Austin Swim Club, earned bronze in the 200m free at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Des Moines after finaling in five events at the 18&U Winter Championships. He also earned three best times at the Toyota U.S. Open back in November.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.67
  • 100 back – 50.37
  • 200 back – 1:47.84
  • 50 free – 21.14
  • 100 free – 45.58
  • 200 free – 1:38.59
  • 500 free – 4:27.20
  • 1000 free – 9:31.10
  • 1650 free – 15:57.99

In Summer 2019, he placed 15th in the mile at Austin Sectionals before going on to take 22nd in that event at Des Moines Futures.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Pennsylvania! It has been a long time dream of mine to be a part of such a prestigious institution. Thank you to all of my coaches, teammates, friends, and family for their unwavering support throughout this amazing journey. Go Quakers!!!?❤️”

Curreri trains year-round with Lakeland Hills Family YMCA and most recently earned five best times at the virtual YMCA Swimming Festival in April. In July 2019, he finished 21st in the 50m back and 22nd in the 200m back at YMCA LCM Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.31
  • 100 back – 48.65
  • 200 back – 1:45.29
  • 200 IM – 1:50.95
  • 400 IM – 4:07.23
  • 200 breast – 2:08.42
  • 50 free – 21.84
  • 100 free – 47.74
  • 200 free – 1:41.31

A rising senior at Kinnelon High School, Curreri raced to eighth in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 IM as a sophomore at the New Jersey Meet of Champions.
