Andrew Garcia, a senior at the Peddie School, has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Pitzer College and the Pomona-Pitzer swim team beginning with the 2017-18 season.
The senior focuses primarily on freestyle, finishing seventh in the 200 free (1:43.13) at the 2016 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships. Additionally, Garcia was eleventh in the 500 free (4:58.04).
Garcia explained to Swimming World,
“My trip to Pitzer was amazing! I loved the team, coaches, pool, campus, and area around campus. The atmosphere the team created during my trip was incredible and I immediately knew that I wanted to be apart of their program. The academic opportunities at Pitzer, as well as the other four C’s, offer so many different subjects of study that I can choose from as well. The Southern California weather is also a nice touch. Could not be more excited about becoming a Sagehen!!”
His best times in SCY/LCM:
- 50 Free–22.40/25.74
- 100 Free– 48.56/54.96
- 200 Free– 1:43.13/1:58.51
- 500/400 Free– 4:47.69/4:18.08
- 100 Fly– 54.77/1:04.07
- 200 Fly– 1:59.31/2:24.79
As an incoming freshman Garcia will provide some depth to a strong middle-distance freestyle group. His 200 free from last year’s championships would have earned him a finish in the top eight at last year’s SCIAC Championships.
