Passages: Olympic Gold Medalist Marie Corridon Mortell, 80

NORWALK, Connecticut, June 2. OLYMPIC gold medalist Marie Corridon Mortell, 80, passed away last week. Corridon Mortell claimed a gold medal at the 1948 London Olympics as part of the U.S. 400 free relay.

She also swam for Marymount College in 1948 where she became the first woman to break 1:00 in the 100-yard freestyle while at the AAU national championships in Daytona, Fla. She posted a time of 59.9 to break that initial barrier.
