Passages: Margaret Colwin, 78, Wife of ISHOF Honoree Cecil Colwin

OTTAWA, Canada, October 9. MARGARET Colwin, 78, dearly beloved wife of Cecil Colwin, Mother of Leon, Robert and Pauline, Son-in-Law Paul, and Grandchildren Joel and Leah, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital, Smythe Rd Campus, on Sat. Sept 27, 2008.

Margaret's life was characterized by love and dedication to her family, the community at large, and all her many friends and professional associates.

Margaret, a multi-talented person in many disciplines, was selfless, modest and unassuming almost to a fault.

She graduated as a State Registered Nurse and Qualified Midwife from the Liverpool Royal Infirmary, delivering more than a 100 babies as he visited under-privileged homes on bicycle. Later she served on Lord Cohen of Liverpool's nursing team attached to the Radcliffe Infirmary at The Oxford University. She continued her nursing career in Southern Africa, first at the Florence Nightingale Hospital in Johannesburg and then at the Hospital in Chingola, Zambia. In later life, she became a qualified Library Technician at Telesat Canada where she was a popular and respected figure for more than 20 years.

All who knew Margaret Colwin cherished her friendship. She was a well-loved, compassionate, understanding and insightful woman whose quiet unassuming always cheerful manner and sense of humour touched the lives of family and friends, young and old.

Those who wish to pay tribute to a life spent in service to others, are respectfully asked to do so in the form of a donation to the The Naomi Bulka Cancer Fund, at the Ottawa General Hospital, 501 Smyth Road Campus, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1H 8L6.

Special thanks to ISHOF for contributing this report. Swimming World extends its deepest condolences to the Colwin family and friends.
