The former Unión Americana de Natación has changed its name to PanAm Aquatics, the organization announced.

PanAm Aquatics is a sports organization with the purpose of organizing, supervising and controlling, in the Western Hemisphere, the amateur aquatics activities of Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Synchronized Swimming, Master and Open Waters.

Its mission is to develop aquatic sports in the Americas and help participants achieve individual excellence, in sport and in life. Its vision is to create a thriving aquatic sports community in the Americas with the values of being inclusive, collaborative and groundbreaking.

More Americas news

“This change is the culmination of more than two years’ hard work with extensive community input, reinforcing our continental organization’s commitment to the entire aquatics family in the Americas — all disciplines, all participants, all federations — as we move into the future,” PanAm Aquatics President Maureen Croes said. “This communique only just begins to scratch the surface of all the exciting things to come. I look forward sharing more with you over the coming months, and I appreciate all of your continued support. Together, we are PanAm Aquatics.”

PanAm Aquatics, formerly the Unión Americana de Natación begain in 1948 during the Olympic games in London, England, with the purpose of unifying aquatic activities in the Americas into a single regional and international organization.

The group was split into four zones, including South America, Central America (including the Caribbean), the U.S. and Canada, which all make up the greater group so that each zone is represented equally among the Americas.

The next event is the Junior PanAmerican Games Nov. 25-Dec. 5 in Cali, Colombia. Colombia will also host the PanAm Aquatics Masters Championships in July, 2022.
