Palisades Charter Sweeps CIF Los Angeles Team Titles

The Palisades Charter men and women ran away with the 2017 CIF Los Angeles titles on Friday.

Women

The women’s 200 medley relay started the meet off with a new 200 medley relay record of 1:47.44. Palisides junior Dora Seggelke then won the 200 freestyle in a close race with San Pedro’s Ema Kakazu. The two recorded times of 1:54.29 and 1:54.68.

Seggelke was later dominant in the 500 freestyle, leading the field by over 25 yards with her 5:01.44.

Kakazu got her hand to the wall first in the 100 freestyle, stopping the clock in 52.84. Kakazu’s teammate Audrey Steen dominated the 200 IM with a 2:06.00. Steen also took the 100 butterfly in 57.21.

Venice sophomore Alyssa Berman claimed 50 freestyle gold with her 24.25. She returned in the very next event to take 100 butterfly silver in 58.18.

In a closer 200 freestyle relay Venice edged San Pedro 1:41.58 to 1:42.82.

Palisades’ Sophia Wlodek crushed the competition in the 100 backstroke. The freshman posted a 55.70 to win by over five seconds. She was less than a second from the City record of 54.86. Her teammate Leah Timmerman wrapped up the individual events with a 1:06.54 to win the 100 breaststroke. The team wrapped up their championship campaign with a 3:41.53 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Palisades scored 538 points to Grover Cleveland’s 286 and Venice’s 267.

Men

Like their female teammates, the Palisades men opened the meet with a city record, turning in a 1:35.68 in the 200 medley relay. Kian Brouwer then kept that momentum going with a city record 1:38.30 in the 200 freestyle. Brouwer also took down the 100 butterfly city record with a 48.36.

Palisades teammates finished 1-2 in dominating fashion in the 200 IM. Alex Havton (1:54.93) and Jon Havton (1:57.10) stood atop the podium. Jon Havton earned gold in the 100 backstroke (52.91). His brother Alex was the 100 breaststroke champion in new record time of 57.67.

LACES’ Jonathan Green out touched Palisades’ Roy Yoo 21.11 to 21.21 in the 50 freestyle. Yoo got his hand to the wall first in the 100 freestyle with a 46.68.

Ashkan Tabatebace of Granada handily won the 500 freestyle with his 4:39.22.

The Palisades men clocked another city record with a 1:25.23 in the 200 freestyle relay. The team completed their relay sweep with a 3:07.66 to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Palisades totaled 554 points. Granada Hills Charter scored 399 and San Pedro High School had 251 points.
