Pacific Head Coach Greg Meehan Resigns

STOCKTON, California, April 1. UNIVERSITY of the Pacific men's and women's swimming head coach Greg Meehan has announced his resignation to take the assistant coaching position for the California men's swimming team. Director of Athletics Lynn King will begin a national search immediately. Assistant Coach Joe Plane has been elevated to Interim Head Coach.

"As excited I am about the opportunity to coach at Cal-Berkeley I am with filled with a lot of emotion as I leave the Pacific Swimming program," said Meehan. "The last three years have been a great experience and I am so proud of the things the team accomplished. Most of all I am proud of the direction that the program is headed and I am excited to see what they accomplish in the future. They are an incredible group of young men and women and I wish them the very best of luck. Lastly I would like to give a sincere thank you to Lynn King and the Athletics Administration for not only the opportunity to coach at Pacific but the tremendous support I have received."

"We'd like to thank Greg for all of his dedication as men's and women's swimming coach.," said King. "We wish him the very best in his new position."

Meehan coached the Tigers for three seasons, leading the women's team to a second place finish in the Big West Conference in 2006-07 and two fourth place finishes. On the men's side, he led the Tigers to three fourth place finishes. Krzysztof Zoldak earned Big West Conference Swimmer of the Year under Meehan in 2005, while Ja-Neil Bragg advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of Meehan's three years. Zoldak and Wojciech Betlej each advanced to the NCAA Championships in 2006-07.
