Pac-12 Women’s Championships Day 1: Cal Edges Stanford for 200 Medley Relay Title; Stanford Breezes to 800 Title

The 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Championships kicked off with the Day 1 finals on Wednesday night from Federal Way, Wash.

The first session consisted of the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay. Cal and Stanford split the two relays, each winning one and taking second in the other. The result is the rivals are tied heading into the second day.

Pac-12 Women’s 200 Medley Relay

The Pac-12 Championships kicked off with a showdown in the 200 medley relay that was decided by two hundredths of a second.

Cal won the race in 1:35.40 to hold off Stanford.

Isabelle Stadden led off for the Golden Bears in 24.06, followed by Jade Neser (26.54), Miah Kragh (22.86) and McKenna Stone (21.94).

Stanford finished in 1:35.42 behind Claire Curzan (23.34), Allie Raab (27.33), Emma Wheal (23.19) and Taylor Ruck (21.56).

USC was third in 1:35.63 with Aria Bernal, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Elise Garcia.

UCLA was fourth (1:36.64), followed by Arizona State (1:38.69), Arizona (1:38.87) and Washington State (1:39.28).

Pac-12 Women’s 800 Free Relay

Stanford was victorious in the second relay of the night, winning the 800 free relay in 6:53.90.

With defending NCAA 200 free champion Ruck swimming the 200 medley relay, Stanford had Morgan Tankersley (1:44.63), Torri Huske (1:41.86), Lillie Norman (1:44.22) and Kayla Wilson (1:43.20).

Cal finished second with Mia Motekaitis, Ayla Spitz, Leah Polonsky and Rachel Klinker getting to the wall in 6:58.62.

Arizona State’s Molly Batchelor, Ieva Maluka, Charli Brown and Lindsay Looney took third (7:02.70).

USC’s Justina Kozan, Anicka Delgado, Isabelle Odgers and Marlene Kahler took fourth (7:06.04).
