Pac-12 Weekly Preview: USC Aims To Build On Strong SMU Classic Performance

The Pac-12 Conference continues its swimming & diving season with a relatively light week of competition.

USC swims at Utah on Friday and Washington State swims at Idaho on Saturday.

The Trojans are coming off of a second-place finish at the SMU Classic.

Senior Riley Scott won the 200y IM while junior Louise Hansson captured the 200y back to highlight the USC swimming and diving team’s final day at the 2018 SMU Classic in Dallas on Saturday (Oct. 13).

The Trojans finished second overall with 312 points as Louisville captured the title with 358.

Scott, who won the 100y breast on Friday, doubled up with a win in the 200y IM in 1:59.52, almost a second ahead of second-place.

Scott broke her own meet record in the 100y breast, posting a 59.55 to lower the mark by 0.01, touching ahead of SMU’s Andrea Podmanikova by 0.13. Scott was also second in the 400y IM final in 4:12.15, an NCAA B cut. to work and fix some details to achieve the lofty goals we have for the season.”

Hansson complemented her 100y back win yesterday with one in the 200y back today in 1:53.10, an NCAA B cut.

“SMU is always a fun meet to get up for and swim fast. Overall, the team did well and I’m happy with my own performances. There is definitely room for improvement for myself and the team and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish in the coming months,” Hansson said.

Senior Maddie Wright was third in the 500y free A final (4:50.38) and Scott followed with a third-place finish in the 200y breast (2:10.88).

Marta Ciesla won USC’s first event on Friday with a strong NCAA B cut in the 50y free in a meet-record 22.18, 0.14 off her PR and 0.33 seconds ahead of Louisville’s Arina Openysheva.
