Three-way Tie Stuns Day 3 of Pac-12 Men’s Championships

Night three of the Pac-12 Men’s Championships had some fireworks.

As Cal and Stanford battled with top-end speed and depth, a three-way tie to win the 100 backstroke stunned the entire conference.

USC’s Ralf Tribuntsov, Robert Glinta and Utah’s Paul Ungur touched the wall together at 45.52 to split the points three ways.

Meanwhile in the team scoring, Cal leads with 677 points, followed by Stanford (544), USC (411.33), Arizona State (285), Arizona (259) and Utah (221.66).

DAY 3 FULL RESULTS

400 IM

Cal’s Andrew Seliskar opened the night with a victory in the 400 IM. He broke the Pac-12 Championship meet record with a time of 3:38.65.

Meanwhile, Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine was disqualified, which will cost the Cardinal some points.

Stanford still got some points in the event as Curtis Ogren (3:40.25) finished second.

Cal’s Sean Grieshop was third (2:42.06), followed by Stanford’s Alex Liang (3:43.89), Cal’s Michael Thomas (3:44.25), Arizona’s Nick Thorne (3:44.53) and Cal’s Ken Takahashi (3:46.55).

100 Fly

Cal kept the winning going, going 1-2 in the 100 butterfly. Justin Lynch kept his first seed in tact by cruising to a win in 45.14.

Teammate Matthew Josa was tied with another teammate Zheng Quah in prelims for the second seed. Josa ended up second (45.37) and Quah was fifth (45.60).

Arizona’s Chatham Dobbs took third (45.40) and Stanford’s Andrew Liang was fourth (45.48).

Stanford’s Brad Zdroik was sixth (45.79), followed by Cal’s Pawel Sendyk (46.35) and Utah’s Ben Scott (46.53).

200 Free

Arizona State’s Cameron Craig broke the Cal and Stanford win streaks, holding his top seed in the 200 free and winning in 1:33.09.

USC’s Dylan Carter was second (1:33.15), followed by Arizona State’s Grant House (1:33.58).

Cal’s Kyle Coan was fourth (1:34.97), followed by teammates Trenton Julian (1:34.62) and Bryce Mefford (1:34.67). Arizona’s Jorge Iga Cesar was seventh (1:34.86) and Utah’s Liam O’Haimhirgin was eighth (1:36.60).

Cal’s Connor Hoppe won the 100 breaststroke in 51.91, overtaking first seed Carsten Vissering (52.00) from USC.

Stanford’s Matt Anderson finished third (52.37), followed by teammate Hank Poppe (52.66), Arizona’s Matthew Salerno (52.84), Cal’s Matt Whittle (53.06), Stanford’s Brennan Pastorek (53.14) and USC’s Mario Koenigsperger (53.21).

With Ryan Murphy graduated from Cal, the backstroke was wide open. It still is as an incredible three-way tie stunned the Pac-12.

USC’s Ralf Tribuntsov, Robert Glinta and Utah’s Paul Ungur touched the wall together at 45.52 to split the points three ways.

Arizona’s Chatham Dobbs was fourth (45.98), followed by Stanford’s Ryan Dudzinski (46.02), Arizona’s Thomas Anderson (46.18), Cal’s Daniel Carr (46.26) and Arizona State’s Zach Poti (46.99).

400 Medley Relay

Cal’s Daniel Carr, Andrew Seliskar, Matthew Josa and Justin Lynch won the 400 medley relay  to close the evening session, finishing in 3:03.91.

USC was second (3:04.95), followed by Stanford (3:04.95).
