Oregon State vs. Southern California

LOS ANGELES, California, October 1. THE Women of Troy swimming team kicked off its regular-season schedule with a 141-112 win over Pac-10 rival Oregon State on Friday (Oct. 1) at the McDonald's Swim Stadium.

USC opened the meet by securing an NCAA `B' cut in the 200y medley relay as senior Presley Bard, freshman Kasey Carlson, senior Lyndsay DePaul and junior Katinka Hosszu won in 1:40.68.

Senior Ellie Doran next won the 1000y free in 10:07.85 and was followed by teammates Lynette Lim (10:12.95) and Chelsea Wild (10:19.94).

Sophomore Haley Anderson finished first in the 200y free in 1:49.54 (just off an NCAA `B' cut) while junior transfer Amanda Smith touched behind her in 1:52.50.

Bard posted a `B' cut in the 100y back in an easy 54.32 while sophomore Christel Simms was second in 55.89. Sophomore Jessica Schmitt won the 100y breast in 1:03.63 with junior Tanya Krisman, traditionally a butterflyer, branching out in a new stroke to finish a close second in a solid 1:03.94.

Hosszu won the 200y fly in 1:56.78, a strong `B' cut, while sophomore Yumi So was second in 2:01.06, less than half a second from being a `B' cut. Carlson won the 50y free in 23.21, just off the 23.02 `B' standard.
Simms came back to win the 100y free in 51.49 with sophomore Kate Shumway touching next in 53.11. Freshman Meghan Hawthorne won the 200y back in 2:01.88 with Lolo Blair in third (2:03.81).

Hosszu notched her second win – and `B' cut – in the 200y breast (2:14.85). Anderson then doubled up herself with a win and `B' cut in the 500y free (4:48.79).

DePaul's top time in the 100y fly of 53.22 was another `B' cut while Krisman's 54.93 was just shy of the 54.62 standard.

The Trojans closed out the meet with one more `B' cut as the quartet of Bard, Carlson, DePaul and Hosszu finished first in 3:22.63.

USC will hold its Alumni Relays Saturday (Oct. 2) at 11 a.m. in an event that will also feature a silent auction to help the program's fund raising efforts.
