O’Neill Heading Back to Providence

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island, June 9. THE coach at Providence College from 1984-2001, John O'Neill is ready for a second stint with the program. O'Neill was hired earlier this week and takes over for Jonathan Caswell, who resigned in April. O'Neill was the coach at West Point (Army) from 2001-06 and was named Patriot League Coach of the Year in 2004.

During his first run at Providence, O'Neill molded five Big East Conference champions on the female side and was Big East Women's Coach of the Year in 1998. He also earned New England Coach of the Year honors on four occasions, three times for his efforts with the Providence women and once for his work with the men's squad.
