Olympian Amanda Beard to Serve as Honorary Race Chair of Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 7. FOUR-TIME Olympian Amanda Beard will serve as honorary race chair of the Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure this Sunday, and will also participate in the event to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Beard has a personal connection to breast cancer. Her grandmother has fought breast cancer for 10 years, and in that time Beard has been a constant presence in the fight to cure breast cancer. She will be running this weekend to honor her grandmother, and hopes to raise $4,470 for Team Swim Like A Mom, one dollar for every woman who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year in Arizona.

The Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure begins at the State Capital at the Wesley Bolin Plaza. Now in its 21st year, the event has drawn more than 2 million participants in its five-kilometer run. The day will also feature a special 5K run for breast cancer survivors, a one-mile run/walk and a 5K walk.
