Ohio University Picks Up 2022 Verbal From Georgia 1-3A State Finalist Alex Wayner
NEW COMMIT: Ohio University has received their second verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Alex Wayner of Savannah, Ga., who will join Lauren Hartel as a member of the Bobcats Class of 2026.
Wayner becomes the third Division I swimmer in her family joining sister Darby (Utah, ’19) and brother Harrison (Georgia, ’22).
‘She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my academic and athletic career at Ohio University! I am so thankful for this opportunity to swim under amazing coaches! I am so grateful to my coaches, friends, and family for their endless support! Go Bobcats!”
Wayner, who trains with Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team under Olympic medalist Bill Forrester, earned four best times at the Mizuno Atlanta Classic in May after recording three top-15 finishes at the ISCA International Senior Cup in March. She also had a strong showing at the 18&U Winter Championships back in December.
In August 2019, she won the 50m free at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.99
- 100 breast – 1:04.96
- 200 breast – 2:25.26
- 200 IM – 2:08.80
- 100m free – 59.53
- 200m IM – 2:26.00
A rising senior at Savannah Arts Academy, Wayner is a six-time Georgia 1-3A State Championship finalist. She placed third in the 100 breast and sixth in the 50 free as a junior while taking fourth and sixth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
Wayner will add valuable sprint freestyle and breaststroke depth both individually and on relays when she suits up for the Bobcats next year.
