Ohio State Continues Dominance At Columbus Sectionals

A host of Ohio State Buckeyes continued to light the pool up at 2015 Speedo Sectionals in Columbus, Ohio. Last night, current and former Buckeyes took six of the eight individual events. Day two was no different as Ohio State swimmers took each individual event at finals.

Former Buckeye Samantha Cheverton just missed breaking the two-minute mark in the women’s 200-meter free en route to her 2:00.44 victory. Lauren Heller held on to her second-place seed with a 2:03.51, fending off third-place finisher Camey Rabold (2:04.74).

Steffen Hillmer of Ohio State won the men’s 200-meter free in 1:51.12, beating Eastern Michigan’s Andrew Henry (1:51.66), who is swimming with Club Wolverine this summer. Cameron Craig posted a 1:52.08 to get third.

Aliena Schmidtke cracked the one-minute barrier in the women’s 100-meter fly to win the event in 59.27. The Buckeye beat Erin Seiler, who dropped nearly two seconds from her prelims swim to get second in 1:00.77, while Kaitlyn Jonhson took third in 1:01.11.

Ohio State’s Matt McHugh won the men’s 100-meter fly with a 53.58, five one-hundredths of a second lower than his best time. Grergory Nymberg swam a 54.31 to get third, while Mason Miller dropped to a 54.84 and just missing his Olympic Trial cut by mere hundredths of a second.

Another Buckeye Lindsey Clary blew away the women’s 400-meter IM with her 4:47.70. Her time obliterated the Olympic Trial and Nationals cuts, which both stand at 4:54.99. Meg Bailey clocked a 4:52.89 to get second. Mikayla Herich, 16, vaulted to third with her 4:57.88 effort.

Brothers Christopher and Ryan DePietro went one-two in the men’s 400-meter IM. Christopher, who swims for Ohio State blazed a 4:26.62, while Ryan, who swims for the University of Cincinnati, popped off a 4:28.56. Ian Reardon took third in 4:30.69.
