NEW COMMIT: High school junior Liam Smith of Philadelphia, Penn. has verbally committed to the University of Notre Dame, he announced via Instagram on Monday.

Smith previously swam for Lower Moreland Swimming but now swims year-round with Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and owns three Summer Juniors standards. He most recently competed at ISCA TYR Juniors where placed fourth in the 400 IM and fifth in the 500 free after earning a pair of best times at Juniors East in December. This past summer, he earned bronze medals in the 200m free, 100m fly and 200m IM before going on to take sixth in the 200m free at Richmond Futures.

Also competing for La Salle College High School, Smith is a five-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. He was the 200 free runner-up and placed fourth in the 500 free as a junior after finishing fifth in the former event during his sophomore season. Smith has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am so blessed and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming careers at the University Of Notre Dame! Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me to reach this point. Go Irish!”

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 46.42
  • 200 free – 1:38.38
  • 500 free – 4:30.58
  • 200 fly – 1:52.78
  • 400 IM – 4:00.91

When he suits up for the Fighting Irish as a member of the class of 2024, Smith will add his talents to a training group led by Zachary Yeadon and Sadler McKeen. Although he’s just outside of scoring range at the ACC Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season with over a year to go before arriving at Notre Dame.
