No. 8 SMU Wins SMU Classic

DALLAS, Texas, October 21. THE No. 8 SMU women's swimming and diving team took top honors tonight at the 13th annual SMU Classic. With a total of 328 points the Mustangs were first with Florida St. in second (318 points), Wisconsin with 288 points in third, Alabama in fourth with 258 points while Virginia Tech had 253 points and LSU with 229 points.

In the first event of the evening, the Mustangs out-touched Florida St. in the 400 free relay for a time of 3:24.87. The relay consisted of Petra Klosova, Candace Blackman, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Leane Darling. Katie Roberts took third place in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.03 and Anja Carman swam in the consolation finals and timed in at 4:52.48 for seventh place.

Carman then turned around and took first-place in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.33 while Klosova clocked in 2:02.65 for seventh-place in the consolation finals. In the 200 breast, Tamara Sambrailo touched the wall for a time of 2:20.39 and fourth-place. Jennifer Basel timed her 200 breast at 2:21.44 for ninth-place in the consolation finals.

The three-meter diving event was tonight as Kristin Schild placed third with a score of 257.60. The swimming action continued with the 100 free as Blackman finished second with a time of 51.13 and Darling placed seventh in the consolation finals with a time of 51.31. San Juan Cisneros placed fourth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.34 while Roberts touched in for tenth place in the consolation final and a time of 2:07.95.

Klosova competed in the 200 IM and notched a time of 2:04.64 and third-place while Sambrailo finished tenth in the consolation finals and had a time of 2:10.25. The night and the Classic was concluded with the 200 free relay as the SMU relay team of Darling, Blackman, San Juan Cisneros and Roberts finished third with a time of 1:35.64.
