Nicholas Caldwell Shatters U.S. National Age Group Record

CLEARWATER, Florida, February 22. LAST night, at the 2008 Florida Swimming Spring Junior Olympic Championships, 14-year-old Nicholas Caldwell of the Gulf Coast Swim Team shattered the 13-14 U.S. National Age Group boys record in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Caldwell completed the distance in 9:07.95 to clear the 15-year-old record of Jeremy Kane set with a 9:10.10 in 1993, before Caldwell was even born.

After the first day of swimming, Sarasota YMCA leads the team battle with 233 points, well ahead of Caldwell's second-place club with 102 points.
