Next Chapter in Torres’ Comeback About to Unfold

BERLIN, Germany, November 17. THE last time we saw Dara Torres in major competition, she was putting on a show in Indianapolis. At the United States Nationals during the summer, Torres claimed victory in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events, breaking her own American record in the shorter discipline.

Although Torres had previously produced several performances that were of a world-class nature, her showing at Nationals served as a big statement. A four-time Olympian who has nine medals to her credit, Torres looks to be on track for an invitation to a fifth Games, this time around in Beijing. And, it appears Torres will be a medal contender in China.

This weekend, Torres will provide the latest glimpse of where she stands in her second comeback, as she'll be competing in the Berlin stop on the FINA World Cup circuit. While Torres is better known for her long-course exploits, expect the sprint legend to put up some quality times. Call it the latest chance to send a message to the competition.
