New Zealand Short Course Championships: Meet Closes With Five Swimmers Making Worlds Squad

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, October 4. THE New Zealand Short Course Championships came to a close with a total of five swimmers making the World Short Course Championship squad with seven qualifying times.

Melissa Ingram, Glenn Snyders and Cameron Simpson also earned spots on the Worlds squad for New Zealand while competing at the Dubai stop of the FINA World Cup, giving New Zealand a total of eight swimmers heading to Turkey thus far. This final eight includes qualifying times from Lauren Boyle, Matthew Stanley, Ewan Jackson, Corey Main and Sophia Batchelor this week in Wellington.

Boyle, who already qualified for Turkey in the 400 and 800 freestyle events, missed out on the 200 free qualifying time but still managed a win in 1:57.12. Samantha Lee took second in 1:58.44, while Tash Hind placed third in 1:58.48.

Main, who made the team in the 100 back, won the 200 back tonight in 1:54.39 to close down his week of competition. Kurt Crosland finished second in 1:55.42, while Benjamin Gillies touched third in 1:57.90.

Meanwhile, Abbie Johnston topped the women's 100 breast in 1:09.46, while Katie Kenneally took second in 1:09.05. Kendall Reidy placed third in 1:10.59. Andrew McMillan won the men's 200 fly in 1:57.92 with Shaun Burnett (2:00.00) and Corneille Coetzee (2:03.07) completing the top three.
