NCSA Junior Nationals: Second Evening Provides Close Finishes

ORLANDO, Florida, March 18. THE first night of long course meter swimming, and second night of finals at the National Club Swimming Association Junior Nationals featured some thrilling finishes across the board.

Parkway's Taylor Wohrley topped an extremely close finish in the women's 100 free with a top time of 57.20. Academy Bullet Olivia Scott finished second in 57.21, while Aquajet Rachel Bootsma claimed third in 57.23. Jersey Wahoo Matthew Belecanech raced to the men's 100 free title in 50.99, while Eagle's Giles Smith clinched second in 51.08. Lake Forest's Mitch Stoehr completed the top three in 51.44.

In the women's 100 breast, Rockwood's Haley Spencer captured the title in 1:10.23 with Wildcat Alisa Finn (1:11.00) and St. Charles' Angie Chokran (1:11.03) rounding out the podium. Magnus' Nick D'Innocenzo blasted through the men's 100 breast in 1:02.82. Poseidon's Stuart Ferguson touched second in 1:03.91, while Baylor's Brett Roberson placed third in 1:05.72.

Blue Tide's Jillian Vitarius wrapped up the women's 200 back title in 2:14.59, while North Bay's Deborah Roth finished second in 2:15.42. Wohrley earned her second medal of the night with a third-place 2:15.45.

Rockville Montgomery's Brady Fox cruised in the men's 200 back with a winning effort of 2:02.51. Belecanech finished with his second medal of the night with a silver-winning 2:04.31, while Long Island's Jack Wagner wound up third in 2:04.92.

Nova of Virginia dominated the women's 200 fly with a 1-2-3 effort. Emma Nunn captured the title in 2:13.91, while Rachel Naurath took second in 2:15.22. Allison Titley comprised the rest of the podium in 2:16.46.

Nova of Virginia's Naurath, Alison Haulsee, Alaina Brown and Allison Titley clinched the women's 800 freestyle relay in 8:18.64, while Fox put on a show with an anchor leg of 1:53.40 as Rockville Montgomery trailed Blue Tide, 6:39.52 to 6:45.30, at the final exchange of the men's 800 free relay. Rockville Montgomery's team of Douglas Mackenzie, Casey Stodter, Matt Thomas and Fox wound up tying Blue Tide's Matt Barber, Jordan Jones, Joseph Stanton and Ryan Glander with matching 7:42.30s for the dead heat.

Results from the men's 200 fly have not yet been made available.
